Welcome

Hello, my name is Julie Hanak and I am currently studying GDLT (Primary) full time with CQUniversity as a flex student. I live in Bundaberg QLD. I have 3 teenage children who keep me on my toes but are becoming young respectful adults.

I currently work for Education Qld as a Community Liaison Officer, but have held several positions over my 14 years service. These have included Teacher Aide, Special Needs Teacher Aide, ICT Specialist Teacher, IWB Specialist, IT Co-Ordinator and Technician.

In my current role as CLO, I witness first hand the hardships that many students face in their day to day learning. Many of these difficulties arise from the low socio economic backgrounds that these students come from. I believe to teach the child properly, you need to understand where they have come from and what challenges they face. For some students learning is not a priority when survival is obviously more important. These students often have the 'fight or flight' attitude and haven't experienced 'normal' homelife. These students reach out for attention, however, unfortunately this is usually in the form of anti social behaviour. For these students, learning needs to be rewarding and exciting.

I aim to become a teacher that aspires and motivates students to learn to the best of their abilities and help them to strive to reach their goals. I believe for that for some students, setting small realistic goals such as getting to school on time or being organised helps these students to achieve the grounding for life long learning and goal setting. For other students, these types of goals are insignificant and their goals can be bigger and more long term, but for others who are facing many hurdles in their young lives due to hardships at home, these goals are major.

I believe in the Multiple Intelligences way of teaching and learning as each student has varying strengths and abilities, and will learn in different ways. I believe you can not expect 25  students to all learn in the same way and therefore it is important to 'tap' into their style of learning.

I will aspire to make my classroom exciting and innovative, so students wish to come to school and learn. I have interests in the areas of ICT's and Drama and these will be prevelant in my classroom.

I am excited about starting this course but more excited that I will soon be able to teach and make a difference in the lives of others!
